Review: House of Style
Written December 16, 2000
The House of Style is one of the best CSS resources I have found online. I've been using it intensively for three weeks now, and it has quickly become indispensible.
The layout is clear (though one may disapprove of the highlighted links) and I find the site easy to browse through. I would appreciate a search, though.
Especially useful is the feature by feature browser compatibility guide (also available browser by browser). Not only does it explain which features are supported by which browsers, but also in which way they are not supported.
The properties list was a little hard to find for me (nested in the extensive tutorial) but also proved very practical.
One quality of this site is the variety of ways in which the information is presented. There are at least three different tutorials (a cookbook, a 10 lesson tutorial and the more complete one already mentioned), and cross-linking has been widely used.
Add to that an interesting list of articles and resources, and you have a very complete and precious site to bookmark!
Happy CSSing...
24.02.2001 update
House of Style has redesigned and added a whole new chapter on positioning with CSS2
If you are considering diving into CSS following the browser push, you might find this a useful resource.
